About

It all started with a bold idea: what if the everyday operational problems hospitals face — like broken equipment, missing supplies, or time-consuming manual reporting — could be reported and resolved with one app?

For the past 5 years we’ve been working with MediShout on their mission to make that vision a reality. As a digital platform created by people who’ve lived the hospital experience — doctors, not just developers — MediShout is reimagining how healthcare teams report issues, track assets, and connect with suppliers across NHS Trusts and beyond.

With our healthtech expertise and user-focused approach, we helped bring this vision to life building a powerful system that doesn’t just support hospital operations, but transforms them.

The Challenge

Hospitals face complex operational hurdles: inefficient communication between staff and suppliers, time-consuming manual reporting processes, and difficulty tracking assets. These inefficiencies not only drain valuable staff time but also risk patient safety and increase costs.

MediShout aimed to create a single, easy-to-use digital platform that could:

  • Enable hospital staff, patients, and visitors to quickly report issues (“Shouts”) like: broken equipment or missing supplies via mobile devices
  • Automate triage and routing of requests to the right teams or suppliers
  • Provide real-time communication channels to resolve issues faster
  • Track and manage assets to improve sustainability and reduce waste
  • Effortlessly integrate with hospital systems and workflows — enabling smarter, more efficient supply management

The challenge was to build a robust, scalable solution that meets the demanding and dynamic needs of healthcare environments while ensuring high adoption and usability.

Our Approach

Collaborative Development

From day one, our team worked closely with MediShout’s leadership — a group that included practicing doctors who understood firsthand the challenges hospitals and patients face. This deep involvement was critical in designing an intuitive app that fits naturally into busy hospital environments and encourages behavior change.

Robust Compliance & Data Protection

Recognizing the paramount importance of data privacy and security in healthcare, we designed the MediShout system with compliance at its core to minimize risk exposure and simplify compliance with regulations such as HIPAA and GDPR.

  • Dual-Database Architecture (separation of sensitive data) - Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI) are stored in a dedicated, isolated database, separate from general operational data
  • End-to-end encryption that secures data both at rest and in transit
  • Role-based access control ensuring users access only the data necessary for their role

Rigorous Testing & Iterative Improvements

Over the 5 years of development, we implemented continuous integration and automated testing pipelines to ensure a reliable, bug-free user experience. Regular feedback loops with end users enabled us to iterate rapidly and deliver new features aligned with evolving needs.

Impact & Results

MediShout has been adopted by over 100 hospitals internationally, including major NHS Trusts such as Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, with more than 10,000 active staff users.

Our Commitment to HIPAA & GDPR Compliance

In healthcare technology, protecting sensitive patient data and adhering to stringent legal frameworks is non-negotiable. At ULAM LABS, we possess deep expertise in navigating the complex regulatory landscape surrounding healthcare data privacy and security, including HIPAA in the United States and GDPR in the European Union.

Comprehensive Regulatory Knowledge

We understand that HIPAA applies to covered entities and their business associates handling protected health information (PHI), requiring strict safeguards for electronic health data. Meanwhile, GDPR governs the processing of personal data of EU/EEA residents, including special categories such as health records, demanding explicit consent, data minimization, and rights like data access and erasure.

Our team stays current with evolving regulations and best practices to ensure that every system we develop complies fully with these frameworks. We conduct thorough data inventories and risk assessments, mapping data flows and access controls to reduce vulnerabilities and demonstrate compliance readiness.
